An app for law firms — clients see case status without calling their lawyer.
Not every firm needs an app. It makes sense when you have hundreds of active clients on retainer, or cases run for months and clients keep asking what is happening. Then a portal with case status, documents and chat takes part of the calls off lawyers. Otherwise we will honestly suggest a web portal or PWA.
The most frequent question a law firm client asks is 'how is my case going?'. With hundreds of cases, answering eats hours of lawyers' and assistants' time. A client portal or app showing stages, upcoming hearings, uploaded documents and invoices turns those conversations into self-service and makes the firm's work visible to the client.
For businesses on retainer the app is a channel for assigning tasks: the client's accountant or director sends a contract for review, sees the response deadline and the history of all requests. It is an argument for renewing the retainer and a way to show the volume of work done.
Another scenario is your own legal-tech product: a template document builder, a paid consultation service, step-by-step personal bankruptcy support. Here the app is not an add-on but the core product, and the requirements change.
What a law firm app can include.
Work stages, upcoming hearings and deadlines, lawyer comments. Data comes from the CRM, so lawyers do not keep a second record.
Client uploads of scans, finished documents from the lawyer, contract versions. Access only to one's own cases, files stored on servers in Kazakhstan.
Messaging inside the case instead of personal WhatsApp: history stays with the firm, the responsible person is visible, new staff pick up context.
A retainer client assigns a task — review a contract, prepare a claim letter — and sees the deadline and assignee. Tracks the plan's hour limit.
Invoices by stage and retainer, Kaspi Pay in the app, payment history and acts.
Signing documents with an e-signature via NCALayer or eGov Mobile where permitted — no office visit needed.
Choice of lawyer, format and time, push and WhatsApp reminders, video call link.
Interface in Russian and Kazakh, notifications in the client's language.
Main app screens.
- Login with phone number and code
- My cases: list and statuses
- Case card: stages, deadlines, hearings
- Case documents
- Chat with the lawyer
- Retainer tasks
- Invoices and Kaspi payment
- Consultation booking
- Profile and notifications
When an app is an unnecessary expense.
If clients come with one-off matters — a consultation, a divorce claim, LLP registration — they do not need an app: nobody downloads one for a single case. A website, WhatsApp and a CRM that messages the client about case progress are enough.
If you have a few dozen active clients, a web portal or a PWA without store publishing solves the same problem for roughly half the price: from ₸1,200,000 versus from ₸2,500,000 for iOS and Android. A native app is justified when hundreds of clients are on ongoing service and you need push notifications about deadlines and signing documents from the phone.
We start by asking how many 'what about my case' calls lawyers take a week and how many clients are on retainer. If the numbers are small, we will honestly talk you out of it.
How we build an app for a firm.
- Analysis — 1–2 weeks: which case data to show the client and which not, roles and access rights, data storage requirements.
- Design — 2–3 weeks: prototype of key screens, tested with several of the firm's real clients.
- Development — from 6 weeks: backend, CRM integration, Kaspi payment, apps in Swift and Kotlin or a PWA.
- Publishing — App Store and Google Play, privacy policy, store review.
- Growth — support and new features based on client feedback.
How much an app for a law firm costs.
An iOS and Android app with case status, documents, chat and Kaspi payment costs from ₸2,500,000, from 8 weeks. A PWA or client portal on the website from ₸1,200,000. Support and development — from ₸60,000 per month.
The price grows with: e-signature document signing, hour tracking on retainers, sync with your own case management system, complex access roles inside the firm. Base prices are on the mobile apps page.
The short version.
How much does an app for a law firm cost?
iOS and Android from ₸2,500,000 and from 8 weeks, a PWA or web portal from ₸1,200,000. We estimate after reviewing scenarios and integrations.
Where are client documents stored?
On servers in Kazakhstan: the personal data law requires databases with data of Kazakhstan citizens to be kept in the country. Access is restricted — clients see only their cases, lawyers only those assigned to them.
Can documents be signed in the app?
Yes, with an e-signature via NCALayer or eGov Mobile if the document allows electronic signing. For documents requiring notarisation this does not replace a visit to a notary.
Do we have to keep cases in two systems?
No. The app pulls statuses and deadlines from the firm's CRM; the lawyer updates a case once and the client sees changes automatically.
What if we have few clients?
Then the app will not pay off. We will suggest a CRM with WhatsApp notifications to clients — it covers most case status questions.
