Review

Why apps get rejected, and how we avoid it.

Apple rejects one in three apps on first submission. Common reasons: no account deletion, payment for physical services set up as an in-app purchase (or the reverse), no Sign in with Apple when other social logins are present, the app is 'insufficiently functional' or looks like a website in a wrapper.

We know these rules not from articles: our apps go through review every week, and we have been through every one of the rejections listed. So we build Apple's requirements into the design stage rather than fixing them after a refusal.

White label is a topic of its own: publishing one app under different brands. Apple is strict about it; we do it for schools in 1Study and know how to set it up so the apps do not get taken down.

How we work

From enquiry to result.

  1. 1Discovery

Scenarios, screens, Apple requirements, estimate. 1–2 weeks.

  2. 2Design

Figma to HIG, a prototype to check the navigation.

  3. 3Development

SwiftUI and back-end in parallel. TestFlight builds every week.

  4. 4Testing

On devices of different generations and on different networks. We fix everything before submission.

  5. 5App Store

Listing preparation, submission, review, publishing. Then updates and ASO.

Price and timeline

What affects the price.

An app with 10–15 screens, authentication, push notifications and a back-end is ₸1,500,000–3,000,000 and 6–10 weeks. With Apple Pay, offline mode, widgets and complex logic it is ₸3,000,000–6,000,000. If you also need Android, it is cheaper to price both apps together or consider Flutter.

The Apple Developer account is $99 a year, paid by you.

Our track record

We do this for ourselves too.

1Study for iOS is a native Swift app used by the students of 62 schools, with white label for every brand. A personal finance app on SwiftUI and a counter app in the App Store are in our case studies. Our developer account has been active since 2024, and the apps are updated weekly.

Questions

The short version.

How much does an iOS app cost?

From ₸1,500,000 for a native app with a back-end. The exact figure comes after a 1–2 week discovery. More on what goes into the price in our article on app costs.

Why native rather than Flutter?

Native means a better interface, access to every iOS feature and an easier review. Flutter is cheaper if you need both platforms and the interface is standard. We will advise at the brief.

Do we need a Mac and an Apple account on our side?

An Apple Developer account, yes, in your company's name (we help set it up, including D-U-N-S). No Mac needed: we do the builds, you test through TestFlight on an iPhone.

How long does Apple review take?

Usually 1–3 days. If the app is rejected, we respond and fix it the same day. We allow a week for publishing to be safe.

Can we take Kaspi payments in an iOS app?

Yes, for physical goods and services; Apple allows this. For digital content and subscriptions to app features, Apple purchases are mandatory.

Discuss a project
