Websites, booking and ads for barbershops: the client comes back every 3–4 weeks.

A man picks a barber by their work on Instagram and the 2GIS listing, then keeps coming out of habit — until one day he forgets to book and walks into the shop next to his home. We set up online booking with a specific barber, a reminder about the next haircut, ads within a 2–3 km radius and a report for every barber.

How we build the systemBarbershops
1Ads & SEO2Website3CRM4Repeat sales

A barbershop lives on repeat visits. A men's haircut holds its shape for 3–4 weeks, so a regular client comes 10–15 times a year and over a year brings in dozens of times the first ticket. A new client is expensive: he compares barbers' work on Instagram, the 2GIS rating, the price and the distance from home or office — and almost always chooses within a 10-minute radius.

That creates two tasks. The first is to bring in nearby clients fast: a maps listing, 2–3 km geo-targeting, a page with prices and booking with a specific barber. The second is not to lose him after the first cut: booking the next visit right in the chair, a WhatsApp reminder three weeks later, a bonus for the fifth haircut, a gift card for the holidays.

Chains and franchises add a third: one booking system and one client base across all locations, comparing barbers and branches by revenue and retention. Below is what we do for barbershops in each area.

Typical problems

What barbershops come to us with.

  • Bookings arrive via Direct, WhatsApp and phone; the front desk can't keep up on Friday evenings and Saturdays, and some clients go to the barbershop next door.
  • A client got a haircut and disappeared: nobody reminded him about the next one, and six weeks later he booked wherever there was a free slot.
  • Barbers run Instagram each in their own way, there is no single feed of work, and ads are shown to the whole city instead of 2–3 km around the shop.
  • Nobody knows which barber keeps clients and which one sees people only once: pay is a percentage of revenue, and retention is invisible.
  • When a barber leaves, his clients leave with him, because the client base lives in his phone, not in the barbershop's system.
  • In a chain or franchise every location has its own number, account and prices — a client can't book his usual barber at another branch.
Kazakhstan specifics

What matters in Kazakhstan.

  • 2GIS — the first place people search for a barbershop nearby: rating, photos of work, prices and replies to reviews decide where they go as much as Instagram does.
  • Kaspi — Kaspi QR payment in the chair, Kaspi Pay for prepayment, gift cards and memberships on the website; clients expect to pay from their phone.
  • WhatsApp — the main channel for booking and reminders; with the official WhatsApp Business API, confirmations and next-haircut invitations go out from the booking system automatically.
  • Booking systems — most barbershops already use YClients (Altegio) or Dikidi: the website, app and ads must write bookings there, not into a separate calendar.
  • Two languages — kids' haircuts, father-and-son visits and Kazakh-language queries like «ерлер шаштаразы» bring a separate flow in Astana, Shymkent and the southern regions.
  • Advertising law — alcohol and hookah in ad creatives are banned by the Kazakh Law on Advertising and Meta's rules, even if the shop offers whisky; the client base is stored with consent under the personal data law.
Where to start

Launch order for a single location.

  1. Listings on 2GIS, Google and Yandex with prices, photos of work and reviews — a free «nearby» flow; we always start here.
  2. Online booking with a barber — the booking-system widget on the website, Instagram and 2GIS, plus a WhatsApp button.
  3. Automatic reminders about the appointment and the next haircut in 3–4 weeks — cheaper than any advertising.
  4. Geo-targeting within 2–3 km with barbers' work and a first-haircut offer — first clients within a week.
  5. SEO and an app — once there are several locations and a base of regular clients.
Economics

Why retention matters more than a new client.

In our experience and according to market data, a men's haircut in Almaty and Astana barbershops costs ₸5,000–12,000, with a beard trim more. A regular client comes 10–15 times a year, bringing in ₸60,000–180,000 from haircuts alone. Acquiring one new client through ads costs several thousand tenge, so it only pays off if the person comes back.

Hence the key metric: the share of clients who return within 45 days. We look at it first — by barber, by location, by source. If fewer than half come back, ad money is leaking — we fix booking, reminders and service first, then increase the budget.

Questions

Barbershop questions.

How much does a barbershop website cost?

A landing page for one location with prices, barbers and booking is ₸250,000–400,000; a website with several branches, service pages and two languages is ₸600,000–1,200,000. Details on the page website for barbershops.

We already use YClients or Dikidi — why do we need anything else?

A booking system keeps the schedule, but it doesn't bring clients or sell gift cards on its own. We embed its widget into the website and ads, set up reminders and reports, and for a chain or franchise add a CRM for leads that aren't in the booking log.

Which advertising works for a barbershop?

Most often — Instagram and TikTok targeting within 2–3 km with videos of barbers' work, plus maps listings. Google search ads make sense for «barbershop near me» queries and when opening a new location; management from ₸150,000 per month per platform.

How do we win back clients who stopped coming?

The booking system knows each client's last visit. After 4–6 weeks without a booking we send a WhatsApp invitation to his barber, after 2–3 months an offer with a bonus. It takes 1–2 weeks to set up.

Does a barbershop need a mobile app?

A single location usually doesn't: widget booking and WhatsApp do the job. For a chain of 3+ barbershops or a franchise, an app gives unified booking, bonuses and gift cards. More on app for barbershops.
